Pleural Mesothelioma

Section targeting

Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer that can affect different regions of the body, and the most common form of this cancer is pleural mesothelioma. This is where the pleura, which is a protective lining around the lungs, is attacked by the cancer. The vast majority of people who are exposed to asbestos dust and fibers and are subsequently diagnosed with mesothelioma tend to contract this form of the cancer.

There are a number of symptoms linked to pleural mesothelioma, and these include persistent coughing, difficulty swallowing, facial swelling; weight loss, fever, rasping, and coughing up blood. Severe shortness of breath can also result from this form of the cancer. Many of the symptoms, like other forms of mesothelioma, can be very non-specific, which means that they are symptoms that could also be linked to one of a number of far more common diseases, making diagnosis more difficult.

With pleural mesothelioma, the cancer can also spread and affect the chest area, at which point sufferers may begin to experience pain in the ribs and the chest area. The treatment options for this form of cancer can vary and will usually be based on factors such as how far the cancer has spread, your age and medical history, and various other factors. Your doctor will usually determine which is the best form of treatment based on your needs and circumstances.

You may also be able to claim compensation if you have been affected by pleural mesothelioma, and if you wish to claim for pain and suffering, medical costs, and even loss of earnings, you should contact a specialized mesothelioma lawyer as soon as possible. Statutes of limitation mean that you have to file your lawsuit within one or two years of diagnosis in most cases, otherwise you may lose your right to make a claim.
